How security tags protect you and the retailer

One of the main issues that retailers have is people stealing things from them. This can be through clever and ingenious ways but for the most part the old standby of loading up and trolley and making a run for it is still very popular. Supermarkets for example have tried to limit this by creating exits that do not have straight runs or even the inclusion of large revolving doors. This is why you will find a porch area out the front. The balance is trying to find an aesthetic entrance that is impractical for thieves to use.

For clothing retailers there is an additional problem. It is very easy for the thief to come in and put the clothes on and then run out of the shop. Again, the entrance to the shop is paramount but the clothing retailer, and the general retailer, also has another deterrent at their disposal. This is the security seal.

Fitted to the clothing or attached to a box containing the item, the security tag is activated the second someone crosses the store’s entrance. It is a little known fact that a retailer’s in-store detective’s cannot detain a thief unless they have physically left the premises with an unpaid for product. The added bonus with tagged goods on clothing is that without specialist equipment at the tills they cannot be removed.
