Why your rental deposit is mobile.

This is the age of generation rent where it is nearly impossible to save for a house deposit. Many of us are faced with the fact that we shall be forever renting or at least for most of our young adult lives to middle age and possibly beyond. If this is the case the deposit that you put down on a place to rent, usually a month or 2 weeks rent in advance becomes something that is movable with you. When you move the deposit goes with you. Sometimes you will need more for a place, sometimes less. What is important is that you retain this money as you move as a pot.

To keep that deposit you need to have to convince the Property inventory clerk that the property is still the same after you’ve been in it. The Inventory Clerk is impartial and it is their role to report back, in an easily understandable way, what they find.

Keeping the deposit is in most ways down to you. You are entitled to “quiet enjoyment of the property” which means the landlord or their representatives can’t come round every 5 minutes checking up on you. Wear and tear is acceptable but if you do make a mess it should be down to you to fix it. At the end of the day it is not completely yours and you should respect that.
