What would you use a Plasma Polymer Composite for?

The simple answer is that in your daily life you wouldn’t. However for those in the industry of surface treatments and coatings this is a very important process that is employed in a variety of essential scenarios. Many of the items in the home, on the road and even in space, that we use and rely on depend heavily on the application of such processes to ensure that they keep on working and do not suffer from rust and corrosion.

To give you an example of the Plasma Polymer Composite or Anodising as the process is known we can look in the world of home cooking. If you have ever had cause to fry and egg or bacon when the food sticks to the pan it is very annoying. So, you can see a very simple application of the process on the pan that can result in a non stick version. Life suddenly becomes much quicker and easier with the simple use of a treatment.

There are much greater applications that the process is used for in the wider world. For example space travel would be virtually impossible without the application of sprays of polymers applied to create heat shields for spacecraft and for satellites. The use of GPS, for example, would be impossible if the satellite that powers it  is fried by the sun’s unprotected rays on them as they orbit the earth.
