How to have a lucky wedding day

While you hope that everything will run smoothly on your wedding day, if you believe in luck, you might want to make sure you receive a little extra on the big day itself. Here are a few traditions from around the world that are thought to increase the chances of having a successful marriage:

The date

In China, luck comes from the date chosen for the wedding. Choosing the wrong date is a recipe for disaster in the future! When a couple decides on a date, they do so only after consultation with a monk, calendar or astrologer. Dates should be beneficial for the couple, based on the bride’s birthday and it is important to know dates to avoid completely or you will suffer bad luck. The horseshoe

In Ireland especially, brides carry a small horseshoe on their wedding day as it is thought to bring additional luck. It can be in clothing or in a bouquet. The horseshoe must stay in the upright ‘U’ shape for the bride to considered lucky.

Creepy crawlies

English brides must put up with something a little creepier if they want luck on their big day!  If the bride finds a spider crawling on her wedding dress, the pair are set for a successful life and abundant good fortune. Although it may not feel like it at the time! You may want to keep this knowledge quiet though, in case someone decides a joke is in order!
